2007 ChardonnayExotic, Flirty and Refreshing:

Vineyards
The fruit is yielded from Green Island, which is a large vineyard in the eastern reaches of the Carneros.  The Carneros Region is known for its moderate climate where the winds from the San Pablo Bay blanket the landscape during the day, and the cool ocean fog is drawn in at night from the heat of the afternoon.  As a result, grapes stay on the vine longer, reaching higher levels of acidity and full flavor development.  This region is famous for producing some of the nation’s top-notch wines which have scored in the high 90’s (on a scale of 50-100) in critical wine journals.  To balance the strength of the Carneros fruit we married it with grapes from an experimental plot in Rancho Sarco, located in Coombsville.  We found the grapes from this vineyard, situated in Eastern Napa, gave the body and texture we needed to balance the intensity of the Carneros fruit.

Winemaking Techniques
At Petroni Vineyards, the key to developing Burgundian textures relies upon time-tested techniques of whole cluster pressing, native yeasts, barrel fermentation, occasional lees stirring, and barrels made from only the tightest grained woods from France with about 1/3rd new wood.  At each step, we look to develop a balance between the fruit, the oak, and the acidity so all three components are integrated in the finished wine.

Tasting Notes
Aromatically exuberant with pineapple, guava, stone fruit and well integrated vanillin characters.  Burgundian in style, the lush ripe fruit floods the palate and is complimented with yeast complexity and harmonious toasty coconut oak complexities on the finish.
