Magazine’s 2009 Grand Harvest Wine Competition - GOLD MEDAL
PETRONI SYRAH WINS GOLD MEDAL There were over 1600 entries from
North America, Europe, South America and the Pacific Rim, and only 142 Gold
medals awarded in the Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine’s 2009 Grand
Harvest Wine Competition. Petroni Vineyards, of Sonoma Valley, is pleased
to announce a 90 point Gold Medal for the 2006 Estate Grown Syrah. In
this very competitive event, the judges, who are selected from a pool of top
quality wine professionals, must agree on awarding a medal. Each panel
consisted of three judges within the wine producing, marketing and education
fields. The Petroni Syrah, harvested in October 2006, is
black-purple in color, revealing rich, ripe hillside fruit in both
appearance and bouquet. The aromas of marinated meat, blueberries, and
black pepper lead to a flavorful mouthful of raspberries and dark chocolate.
WINE ENTHUSIAST - 92 Points
Rosso di Sonoma
"An absolutely lovely wine, made in the modern, soft style, but with
great structural integrity. The delicious flavors come in waves of
currants, wild berries, peppery spices, chocolate-covered mint, licorice
and cedary oak influences. Fully drinkable now due to the finely
ground, velvety tannins.

2005 Petroni Sonoma Valley Syrah
"91 points Rustic wild cherry fruit brightens with higher tones of
strawberry and zinny florals. The style falls somewhere between a Barossa
shiraz and an old-vine Sonoma zin. Plump in the middle, blunt in the end,
this should lengthen with a year or two of age."

2005 Petroni Chardonnay, Napa Valley
“91
POINTS - Very dry and a little earthy, with a dusty hay or dried straw
quality to the tangerine, sweet lime, lychee, peaches and cream flavors. An
interesting, crisp Chard with plenty of nuanced complexity.”

"Dark,
bright red. Slightly high-toned aromas of cherry, blueberry pie and nutty
oak. Juicy and intense, with very Italian flavors of dried cherry and red
berries. Penetrating and uncompromisingly dry Sangiovese with excellent
fruit. Finishes spicy and firm, with dusty tannins reaching the front
teeth."

Brunello di Sonoma, Estate Bottled
"The 2002 Poggio Alla Pietra could easily
pass as Brunello Di Montalcino albeit one that is much riper with fruit and
higher in alcohol than would be found in Tuscany obvious French
oak...Outstanding!" 2002
Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate Bottled
"Petroni 2002
Cabernet has a ripe, smooth, lush bouquet of black cherry, blackberry and
boysenberry with light oak and smoke. Ripe flavors laced with very smooth
tannins all carry to the end of its broad long finish. Excellent balance,
structure, and integration. Outstanding!"
