Tasting Notes

A typically deep, dark Syrah with a purple crimson edge. Generously aromatic including crushed dark cherries, blackberry, licorice, spice and violets with a nice savory aspect to it. Great depth of weight and intensity on the palate, with a food-friendly, acid-tannin balance creating a softness but also remaining lively on the finish. The fruit is complemented with savory and spice notes, balanced and complex the wine holds one’s attention as its plush fruit lingers on the palate.

Vineyards

The Petroni Vineyards 2012 Syrah is grown on two blocks of our Estate properties. The first block is situated on the lower, gentler southeast facing slopes towards the eastern edge of Poggio alla Pietra, giving the wine subtle richness and depth. The second block is at our Trinity Ranch property situated at 2000 ft elevation on the Napa and Sonoma county line on the Oakville grade. The Trinity Ranch property offers dark deep and tannic wines. All our wines from 2012 are made with certified organic grapes.

Winemaking Techniques

With the fruit coming in perfect condition it was crushed to tank and allowed to cold soak for several days before initiating a warm ferment. The wine was held on skins for an extended period before pressing to French oak barrels of which 20% were new.
