Tasting Notes

Nice deep crimson red color. Primary fruit notes of cherry and strawberry dominate the aromas while some subtle vanilla and a dusting of earthy herbs and delicate spice lend complexity to the harmonious overall impression. Broad and mouth filling, the wine has an extremely appealing texture, smooth and defined with enough structure to hold it all together. Still extremely youthful the flavors mirror the description of the aromas, classic Pinot fruit with subtle oak influence from a long cool vintage. Pair with Coq au Vin, pork, duck, mushrooms and farm fresh peasant food.

Vineyards

All the fruit was hand harvested from Mi Dulce Corazon Vineyard in the Sonoma Coast AVA. The coastal location of this site keeps the vines cool and promotes a longer ripening period to allow full flavor development and retain acidity. Additionally, this particular vintage benefited from the longer and cooler growing season, further extending the time the fruit spent on the vines, thereby producing beautifully ripe flavors and balance.

Winemaking Techniques

Classic Burgundian techniques are employed at Petroni Vineyards when making our Pinot Noir. De-stemmed and lightly crushed to tank the fruit then cold soaks for several days before being inoculated with yeast derived from Burgundy. A warm ferment allows gentle extraction of color, flavor and a moderate level of tannin prior to being pressed at the end of the ferment. Using all French oak, one third new, we have aged this wine on light lees for ten months prior to bottling, without fining or filtration.
